Nicholas and I have play dates every Tuesday with our favorite pals:  Braden, Billy, and Madden.  It’s fun, the boys get to play and the moms get to chat………. Mostly about the boys!

The girls are always asking me what I have prepared for Nicholas’ lunch as I always cook and pack it up.  So I always tell them and let them try it.  And yes, to your surprise, they actually like it!

The other day Jill (Madden’s mom), asked me if I thought it was really worth it to make the boys food with organic products.  She asked me this because I never fail to mention “organic” when I tell them what I made him.

My answer:

Organic food is not toxic and is produced without using chemicals, pesticides, genetically modified organisms, nor do they undergo the process of irradiation.  Which is what is used in conventional food.  Irradiation uses radiation to kill bacteria and enzymes in food so that they have longer shelf lives. It also damages food by creating free radicals in the food that may damage their nutrition.

The other day Super Chef Elise came in to BB3, the amazing gym I work at, to let us taste some of her incredibly delicious, healthy, and fresh food.  She also spoke to us about organic foods vs. conventional foods and why she chooses to use organic foods for cooking.   She brought in an uncooked chicken breast that she bought at restaurant depot (obviously not organic).  This thing was ridiculously big.  You can imagine the amounts of hormones these animals are given in order to produce such huge breasts.  You would die if you compared that to a chicken breast from whole foods.

So should you feed your children, family and yourself organic foods???

Heck yeah!!!

Children have to eat a lot of food as they are in the process of growing, their organs, brains and immune system are undergoing a developmental stage which causes them to be more vulnerable to the chemicals and toxins that exist in conventional foods.

So is it worth it to pay a few more bucks for organic?

You bet it is!
